Summer Work - Photoshop - Jungle

I've been trying to draw a jungle environment for a while now and haven't had much success, this is most likely down to the fact that I haven't used any reference pictures. One might think it is easy to draw a jungle, but in fact it really isn't. I quit the solo tactics and used a picture from google images to get a feel for the textures of plants, particularly the leaves and the way that the plants are arranged.

These are the results;
This first picture is my initial effort of making a jungle scene, I used the brushes provided by Photoshop and modified some of them to get these shapes. I am very happy with the way that these turned out, particularly the palm leaves.

The second picture is a more serious attempt, again I am proud of the palm leaf texture, the other bushy textures were a bit slap-dash. Because everything in the jungle is green I have found that separating trees and bushs into "groups" makes it easier to distinguish them, better lighting would also help.

Summer Work - Maya - Cacodemon/Textured

video
An update on my Cacodemon, this time with texturing. The horns and the body are all textured and the body has a basic bump map attached to it. Now onto experimenting with some lighting.

(Update)
Started using some lighting with mental ray, I'm still trying to figure out how to make the critter glow or seem more intersting.

Summer Work - Maya - Cacodemon

video
This was just a little project that I decided to impulsively start, I was originally going to do a tutorial from my Digital Tutors page but instead start to design and model my most favoured foe from Doom; the Cacodemon.

It has taken around 6 hours to model and stil isn't finished, I put in some basic aim constraints for the eye and may try to do the same with the tongue. The colours are not final and just help to bring out the parts in the model.

I'm quite pleased with this model, not amazingly challenging or difficult but still a nice little thing to do. Below are some shots of the untextured model.

Summer Work - Photoshop - Amongst the reeds...

Another piece of personal work done this summer; features a robotic soldier moving through a field of large reeds, prehaps on patrol or moving to or from a battlefield. I enjoyed working on this, took me about an hour, maybe a bit longer. I tried to keep the lighting correct and also put in some foreground blurring.

Summer Work - Photoshop - Jungle Ruins

A quick piece of personal work; some ruins in a jungle somewhere, influenced by revisiting a bit of Tomb Raider 3. I used a bit of grey shading to map out the ruins.
